ME Graduate Seminar: "Bats, Rivers and Ships: Examples of CFD at IIHR."

Thursday, October 27 at 3:30 pm to 4:20 pm
2217 Seamans Center

Juan Ezequiel Martin of IIHR-Hydroscience and Engineering at the University of Iowa, will present "Bats, Rivers and Ships: Examples of CFD at IIHR." Abstract:  Computational fluid mechanics (CFD) tools are routinely used to analyze engineering problems. Different examples will be presented of current projects conducted at IIHR using open-source, commercial and proprietary solvers. Modeling approaches, shortcomings, relation to other analysis approaches, such as experimental and field data collection, will be discussed. Examples to be presented include simulation of bats' impact in wind turbines, sedimentation and river flow near the water intakes of a coal power plant, and the modeling of the dynamic interface between aircraft and a ship at sea. Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa sponsored events. If you have a disability that requires an accommodation in order to participate in this program, please call the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in advance, at 319-335-5939.
