Truth Values: One Girl’s Romp Through M.I.T.’s Male Math Maze is a true-life tale about the challenges of being a professional woman in a male-dominated field. Created in response to former Harvard President Lawrence Summers’ now infamous suggestion that women are less represented in the sciences than men because of innate gender differences, the show features writer/performer and “recovering mathematician” Gioia De Cari charmingly bringing to life more than 30 characters, creating “refreshing delights of humor, even compassion . . . a rich and wry reductio ad absurdum.” (EDGE Boston). Tickets available through the Englert Theatre website or box office: Q&A with the performer and two UI professors at the conclusion of the performance. This special engagement is sponsored by the UI Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Department. Cosponsors include the College of Education; College of Engineering; College of Pharmacy; College of Public Health; Department of Gender, Women's, & Sexuality Studies; Department of Mathematics; Department of Physics and Astronomy; Department of Rhetoric; Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science; Department of Theatre Arts; Graduate College; the Applied Mathematical and Computational Sciences Program; Obermann Center for Advanced Studies; Office of the Provost; Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development; Office of the Vice President for Student Life; University  of Iowa Libraries; Women's Resource & Action Center.
